WIP Wednesday

Woo holidays! Not that I’m slacking off…! Man oh man I wish I could afford to learn and create all day every day, but I’m just not at that level (yet)… motivation…

Music

I haven’t really been focusing on learning new songs, but rather on just gaining speed and confidence, so I’ve largely been focusing on various scales and trying to play the current songs I know at the speed they’re meant to be played, and I am gaining confidence every day so that’s a good sign!

I’ve gone back to basics with singing as well, focusing on breathing, etc. and really trying to make it all second nature so that I have a solid foundation to build on. As well as trying to memorize lyrics for new songs I didn’t quite know off by heart. It’s much easier to focus on your technique if you don’t have to think about the words too!

Sewing

I haven’t been sewing as such… more like destroying! In other words, I’ve been experimenting with shredding and weaving some old shirts of mine that I never wear anymore. The holidays has of course been an ideal time to clear out my drawers of anything I don’t wear, and try out some upcycling ideas, so that will probably keep me busy for a wee while.

I quite like the results for this one, and I think it will probably become a yoga top, which is a bit funkier than a crop top and tights! I’ve left the front plain (bar the studs that were already around the armholes), and created a bit of fun in the back.

Yoga & Meditation

It has been bliss being able to practice while it is light. It makes such a difference to the feel of the practice! And having as much time as I want afterward to meditate? Luxury! Now this is why I have worked hard all year… If working even harder next year will get me closer to a place where I can do this every day? Then that is definitely some incentive to dig deep and grind…

French

I’ve only just started trying to teach myself French (via an app as per yesterday’s post!). It is such a beautiful language though, so I’m looking forward to being able to crack out some lines, or even (and a more likely scenario), wander around the house creating and talking myself through my process in french as I start to get a little frustrated with what I’m doing and start to lose the plot as it gets later…).

Have a fantastic, productive, crazy day!

WIP Wednesday

Tomorrow will be my first day off in 3.5 weeks, and I’m looking forward to spending much more time on these wee gems! Here’s where I’m at, at the moment:

Music

Still working on Lamb of God’s “Pathetic”. Still playing it at half the regular speed, and probably will be for some time, but I’m pretty happy with it.

Sewing

I’ve started sketching out my ideas, although I’ve never done this before, and I think it will take a bit of practice to get them looking on paper as they do in my head!

I did however manage to whip together this wee gem. It was for a 70’s themed party, although I love it so much that it might become a regular wear!

Yoga & Meditation

No major milestones achieved with my yoga lately, probably owing to the fact that I’ve been working quite late at night which impacts on the next morning. With the holidays starting tomorrow I’m looking forward to being able to practice every day in the sun! Luxury.

Reading

I’m still workin on “The Clan of the Cave Bear” by Jean M. Auel, but I’m just about done, and have been lent the rest of the series now, so I’ll keep you posted.

The story is based on the days of the caveman, and has undertones of struggles that many of us can relate to in modern times (loneliness, struggles with communication, expectations of society, feeling different, etc.). It also throws a lot of the modern assumptions about what life would have been like for these people, how they would have felt about their social structures, and how they came to do things in certain ways. So if you’re interested in these kinds of things it might be right up your alley!

I’m currently re-listening to “Be Obssessed or Be Average” by Grant Cardone. I don’t even know how many times I’ve listened to this now! But I find it helps centre my focus and keep on my track if I re-listen to it every now and then. It was after all, the book that helped to re-ignite my fire…

I’m curious to know what everyone else is working on? Any books I should be adding to my reading list?

Have a fantastic, productive, crazy day!

WIP Wednesday

With the end of the year approaching, I’ve been working literally every day, with some days being very, very long so alas, I haven’t had much time for my creative projects, and I’m now practically itching to spend more time on them… roll on Christmas holidays!

Here’s where I’m at for now:

Music

I’ve started a new song, a very fast one, but is a favourite of mine: Lamb of God’s “Pathetic”. Actually I’ve been doing pretty well I think! (although played at half the regular speed). There are a lot of bends throughout so its been good practice.

My voice has been sounding much better, I’ve been staying relatively hydrated which I think has helped A LOT, and created a new playlist to sing a long with in the car as I was getting bored of the short one that I had, which has also helped with motivation. This next week I think I’ll put a bit more focus on breathing in the right places and that’s been tripping me up a bit.

As for songwriting, I actually haven’t gotten to any in the last week, although I feel like I have a good few songs building up inside of me I just need to get them down on paper.

Sewing

I started pinning up my dress to get ready to sew and very quickly realised I’d messed up a measurement somewhere so this is on my radar to go back over the measurements and start sewing this weekend! Some of my ebay haul (studs and the like) have started arriving, although there are still a good few to come.

DSCN1023

Millions of new designs have been coming to me, although I haven’t managed to get them on to paper yet, so there is also quite a bit of sketching to do this weekend! Something that I haven’t had much practice doing, so maybe I’ll be the only one that understands what the real image looks like in my head, but hey, that’s all that matters for now right? 🙂

Yoga & Meditation

I’ve been getting short spurts of stretching in largely so no major improvements observed with yoga. I did manage to get a longer session in yesterday morning in though, trying out a new flow that focused on my tight hamstrings, and it was absolute bliss! Just what I needed.

Reading

My fiction reading of the moment is a book lent to me called “The Clan of the Cave Bear” by Jean M. Auel which has been pretty good so far. The book has definitely seen some life! I take it as a good sign for the story to come.

DSCN1022.JPG

For my non-fiction, I’ve just downloaded an Kelly Cutrone’s audiobook “Normal Gets You Nowhere”, and I’m REALLY REALLY excited by what I’ve heard so far, OMFG YES KELLY, YES!

I’m curious to know what everyone else is working on? Any books I should be adding to my reading list?

Have a fantastic, productive, crazy day!

Motivation Monday: My Top 30 Motivational Songs

Everyone has their own list of songs that they can turn to when they need to get the blood moving, and get their head in the game. Whether it’s for the gym, a study playlist, or something you listen to while you work, you’ve probably got a list. Hell, if you’re anything like me, you probably have all sorts of playlists for different situations.

I like a lot of different kinds of music, but I’m largely a rock and metal girl. I think metal is incredibly misunderstood… it’s not all rage and chaos (although the stuff that is, is also often misunderstood). Some of it is positive, uplifting, and there is soo much incredible talent and hard work that goes into it.

Do you take a side glance at a piece of art in a gallery and expect to have understood everything about it? No. But I digress…

In no particular order, here are my top 10 motivational songs (I’ve linked them to some You Tube videos in case you’re up for a high-energy injection!):

  1. Korn – Got the Life
  2. Black Veil Brides – In The End
  3. Suicide Silence – You Can’t Stop Me
  4. Disturbed – Perfect Insanity
  5. Halestorm – Freak Like Me
  6. Breaking Benjamin – I Will Not Bow
  7. Bring Me The Horizon – Throne
  8. In This Moment – Big Bad Wolf
  9. Pennywise – Let Us Hear Your Voice
  10. Asking Alexandria – Break Down the Walls
  11. Avenged Sevenfold – Welcome to the Family
  12. The Prodigy – Fuel My Fire
  13. Slipknot – Pulse of the Maggots (sounds gross but it’s a metaphor…)
  14. Bring Me The Horizon – Happy Song
  15. DevilDriver – Nothing’s Wrong
  16. Disturbed – Rise
  17. Drowning Pool – Go My Own Way
  18. Disturbed – Indestructible
  19. Iggy Azalea – Work
  20. Killswitch Engage – Turning Point
  21. Arch Enemy – The World is Yours
  22. The Prodigy – Firestarter
  23. Seether – Fake It
  24. Pantera – Walk
  25. LMFAO – Party Rockers
  26. Marilyn Manson – (s)AINT
  27. Motionless in White – Unstoppable
  28. Nickelback – Burn it to the Ground (you read correct, I make no apologies)
  29. Disturbed – Ten Thousand Fists
  30. Three Days Grace – Break

It might be worth noting that not all these songs would be considered positive or uplifting by the masses, but I take what I need from them anyway, even if it’s just a bit of attitude, or pep in my step! This is also not an exhaustive list of motivating songs… obviously… there are soo many more but I had to stop somewhere!

Have a fantastic day!

WIP Wednesday

It’s probably appropriate to kick off my first WIP Wednesday with a bit of a spiel. The projects I intend to write about here are small scale, but I hope that one day they will feed into my bigger goals of becoming the best version of myself and contributing to the world in a positive way.

Although these projects may seem like small potatoes to some, we all have to start somewhere, and this is my start (or at least, somewhere near the start!).

These are some of the things I am working on, and how I am progressing…

Music

I started learning a new song last night, Maroon 5’s “She will be loved”. I haven’t been able to get the extra guitar practice in lately, and I’ve been just itching for a decent sized session, and last night I finally got it. I’ve noticed in the last couple weeks that my fingers hurt much, much less than they did which can only be a good thing.

My voice however is sounding about 50%, largely I think because I’ve let myself get too dehydrated with the raging heat we’ve been having. Something I have to keep reminding myself about! Anyone got any tips for not forgetting to drink?!

I haven’t written any lyrics that I’ve loved in a while, and probably I need to try a few new exercises and see what I come up with.

Sewing

I have my fabric marked up and am just about ready to roll with my latest dress experiment. I have also ordered a bunch of different spikes and things to give it the edge that I’m after, but I’m still waiting on most of it to arrive. I might have to start some new wee projects in the meantime to keep me ticking…

Yoga & Meditation

I am definitely getting more flexible, but I was incredibly tight to begin with (particularly in my legs), so there is still a long way to go! I’ve also been thinking I want to add more meditation time to the end of my sessions where I have spare time. I’m hoping this will help me stay more centred and focus my attention! Time will tell..

Reading

I recently finished Bethenny Frankel’s audiobook “A Place of Yes” which I learned so much from, and will go back and re-listen to at some stage. I’m also meant to be chipping away at a course on animal care provided through my volunteer job, but have been having issues accessing the online modules which has been frustrating!

All good now though, just yesterday I managed to get it sorted with an IT guru, just in time to smash it all out and submit it before the 15th December… Never fear though, the deep end and I are well acquainted.

As well as learning for my personal development, I like to get lost in a bit of fiction, particularly when I need to get to sleep but my brain is racing, and have just finished the Shadowhunters series by Cassandra Clare, and am about to pick up a much older novel lent to me by a colleague.

I’m curious to know what everyone else is working on? Any books I should be adding to my reading list?

Have a fantastic day as always!

Day 83: 90 Day Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

pexels-photo-247597.jpeg

I worked all day yesterday, not getting home until 9 pm, so the Sunday grind is alive and well! A bit disappointing that I didn’t get much creative time in this weekend, but I’ll just have to use that disappointment to fuel my fire to get myself into a better financial position and not have to work so much! (or get better at my creative side so that that can be my work?

Dreams are free, and there’s a lot more hustle to do to make that even a possibility!) I have a LOT so much to learn and so much time to make up there, so I’ll just have to keep pushing for a while longer.

Have a beautiful and productive day today!

Day 79: 90 Day Commitment Challenge with Danelle Delgado

pexels-photo-210492

After a motivating discussion on goals and struggles with a friend I got home from work on Day 79 ready to roar into guitar practice and tackle some dress design. By the time my partner got home from a friends house to hit the hay, there was fabric everywhere through the house and I was muttering to myself about measurements and completely lost in my own world.

It was a successful and productive night though, managing to overcome an amateur sewing problem I was struggling with, and applying for a couple more weekend jobs to fill the incoming gap in my extra income, with my current weekend gig slowing down for the year. Got to keep that pipeline full!

Stay positive! Stay productive!
